Giant Steps Jazz Concert – 2024

February 20, 2024 – 6:30pm at Catalina High School Auditorium 3645 E Pima St, Tucson, AZ 85716
Due to unfortunate structural issues that are out of our control the auditorium at RUHS is under construction. Catalina High School has graciously agreed to host us for this very important fundraiser. This is the ONLY fundraiser specifically for the RUHS Jazz Band Program.
Please help us make sure this change does not affect our efforts. We would love to make sure the seats are filled for our students to perform for a full house.

Special Guest Morani Sanders
This year we are excited to announce that Trumpeter (and former RUHS Assistant Band Director) Morani Sanders will perform with the students.
Morani Sanders has been playing trumpet for many years. He graduated from the University of Arizona with a Bachelors in Music, Jazz/Jazz Studies in 2005. He served as a US Naval Musician from 2011 – 2015. He received a Master in Music, Jazz/Jazz Studies from the University of Oregon in 2011. He currently is a music teacher at Tucson High School and performs locally with the Morani Sanders Quartet.
The Rincon/University Jazz bands develop skilled members with a dedication to Jazz music. The RUHS Jazz program has a history of excellence and has been recognized locally, statewide, and nationally. Its members are among the top Jazz musicians in the state, as evidenced by the number of our students placed in the ABODA Allstate Jazz Ensembles. In 2019, after a competitive, rigorous application process, RUHS Jazz l was selected to attend and perform at The Midwest Clinic, a convention attended by 20,000 band and orchestra directors, the largest of its kind in the world. In 2023, Jazz l was selected to perform at the Arizona Music Educators Association Conference.

This is a community event to help support the Jazz Bands at Rincon University High School. This year the Jazz bands are raising funds to help pay general expenses and travel costs to the NAU Jazz Festival.
